Frank Kruse

Sound Designer

 

 

Frank Kruse studied sound design and sound engineering at the Filmuniversity Potsdam Babelsberg and worked early on as a production sound mixer and sound designer on feature films. He specialized in maintaining an overall sound concept from pre-production, shoot and until the final mix. His first theatrical film, Sonnenallee by Leander Haussmann, was a box office success in Germany and sparked his career. He now works as a supervising sound editor and sound designer.

 

Kruse has worked on about 80 national and international film productions with internationally renown directors including Tom Tykwer, Ron Howard, Lana and Andy Wachowski, Anton Corbijn, Uli Edel, Laura Poitras, Romuald Karmakar and many others. His work also includes collaborating with artist Trevor Paglen, which resulted in the sound design for a video installation in 2015.

 

He has been nominated for an MPSE Golden Reel Award for Laura Poitras’ Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour and for the BAFTA for Best Sound for Ron Howard’s Rush. He won the German Film Award for Tom Tykwer’s Perfume - Story of a Murderer.
