Born in Dakar (Senegal), Ghassan Salhab is a Lebanese director and screenwriter. In addition to making his own films and video works, he regularly collaborates on various scenarios in Lebanon and in France, and teaches film studies in Lebanon. He has directed numerous short films and videos.
His feature debut, Beyrouth Fantôme, premiered at the festival Les Trois Continents of Nantes, winning the best soundtrack award. In 2002, his second feature film Terra Incognita, was presented at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, while The Last Man premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2006. His feature documentary, 1958, has first been screened at the FID Marseille in 2009.
His latest two feature films, The Mountain (premiered at the 2011 FID Marseille) and The Valley are part of a trilogy. The Valley has premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival before being presented worldwide, including at the 2015 Forum of the Berlin Film Festival and at the 2015 Fribourg Film Festival, winning the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize. Salhab has won the Best Director from the Arab World Award at 2014 Abu Dhabi Film Festival for this film.
Salhab has also published his texts and articles in various magazines, and a book, Fragments du Livre du Naufrage, in 2012.

وُلد غسان سلهب في داكار، وهو مخرج وكاتب سيناريو لبنانيٌّ. بالإضافة إلى إخراج أعماله من أفلام وفيديو، يشارك في كتابة سيناريوهات متعددة في لبنان وفرنسا، ويحاضر في مادة العلوم السينمائية في لبنان. وقد أخرج سلهب عددًا من الأفلام القصيرة والفيديو.
عُرِضَ فيلمه الطويل الأوّل أشباح بيروت للمرّة الأولى خلال مهرجان "القارات الثلاث" السينمائي في مدينة نانت، فحاز على جائزة أفضل موسيقى تصويرية. وعُرِضَ فيلمه الطويل الثاني أرض مجهولة في فئة نظرة ما من مهرجان كان السينمائي عام ٢٠٠٢. أمّا فيلمه أطلال، فعُرِضَ للمرّة الأولى في مهرجان لوكارنو السينمائي الدولي عام ٢٠٠٦. وعُرِضَ 1958 فيلمه الوثائقي الطويل في مهرجان مرسيليا الدولي للفيلم الوثائقي عام ٢٠٠٩.
يشكّل فيلماه الطويلان الأخيران الجبل والوادي جزءًا من ثلاثيّةٍ. فقد عرض الأول خلال مهرجان مرسيليا الدولي للفيلم الوثائقي عام ٢٠١٠. أمّا الثاني، فعُرِضَ للمرة الأولى خلال مهرجان تورنتو السينمائي الدولي عام ٢٠١٤، قبل أن يُعرَض في أنحاء أخرى من العالم بما في ذلك في مهرجان برلين السينمائي ضمن قسم Forum عام ٢٠١٥، وفي مهرجان فريبورغ السينمائي الدولي الذي حاز خلاله على جائزة الاتحاد الدولي للنقد FIPRESCI. كما نال سلهب جائزة أفضل مخرج من العالم العربي في مهرجان أبو ظبي السينمائي عام ٢٠١٤ لهذا الفيلم.
ونشر سلهب أيضًا نصوصًا ومقالات في مجلّات عديدة، بالإضافة إلى كتابٍ بعنوان من كتاب الغرق عام ٢٠١٢.
